Started in 2005 by Joshua Bezanson, the Ryerson Student Emergency Response Team (RyeSERT) began as an answer to first year injuries in residence.
We are students with backgrounds as firefighters, paramedics, lifeguards and first responders not to mention nursing students and those just interested in serving our community with a genuine desire to help others. RyeSERT is a volunteer-based group of students who undergo CPR and advanced first aid training up to the EMR level. We provide prehospital emergency medical care to the Ryerson students living in the residence buildings during the school year on a Thursday to Sunday basis. We also cover Ryerson events throughout the school year on and off campus. We hold regular meetings, participate in activities with other ACERT student response teams across the country and offer first aid training to the general Ryerson community.
The core values of RyeSERT are professionalism, teamwork, competence and compassion.
RyeSERT’s Mission Statement is “to provide the highest possible quality of prehospital emergency care to the Ryerson community and strengthen the ‘chain of survival’ through innovation, compassion and a tireless commitment to excellence.”
