On-Call Course (OCC)

The On-Call Course is specifically designed for RyeSERT applicants to get familiar with protocols and equipment used on a day to day basis. Some of the topics include radios & communication, infection prevention & control, WHMIS, fire safety and documentation. This course is required by all members before becoming “active” and being able to respond to medical emergencies.

 

EFA

Emergency First Aid & CPR Level B

The Emergency First Aid & CPR Level B course provides simple First Aid & CPR techniques. The course covers skills needed to recognize and respond to basic medical emergencies and an approach on how to manage each situtation that you may encounter. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid & CPR Level B wallet card

 

SFA

Standard First Aid & CPR Level C

The Standard First Aid & CPR Level C course provides comprehensive First Aid & CPR techniques on managing medical emergencies and providing live-saving care until professional help arrives. This course includes skill stations and hands on scenario-based emergencies. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid & CPR Level C wallet card.

 

FR

First Responder (FR)

The First Responder course is designed to teach members advanced first aid techniques such as how to sustain life, prevent further injuries, and the consequences of further injury until more advanced medical personnel arrive. The course content also includes oxygen administration and AED training. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a RyeSERT First Responder certificate. This course is only offered to RyeSERT members.

ITLS

International Trauma Life Suppor t Basic (ITLS)

ITLS – Basic is a two day trauma assessment and treatment course targeted at emergency first responders, paramedics, nurses, and physicians the appropriate assessment and treatment of critically injured trauma patients. Participants will be given didactic knowledge and hands on experience with oxygen delivery devices, basic airway devices, spinal motion restriction (immobilization) equipment, extrication devices and patient assessment tools. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a ITLS International wallet card.
